Last fall, in the Cooking for Heart Health series, a dozen people joined Vetri Community Partnership in a four-part series on how to cook and eat to support your cardiovascular health.

For Deborah, the class was a game-changer.

"I learned how to make my cooking taste good without adding lots of extra salt," she told us. "You can use things like herbs and vinegar which add flavor without increasing salt."

"The meals that they helped us prepare were very beneficial for my diabetes diagnosis—low sugar, high fiber—and the recipes were quick but still healthy," said Deressa, another Cooking for Heart Health participant.

Through hands-on cooking classes and consistent exposure to fruits, veggies, and whole grains, kids who take Vetri Community Partnership's classes are building a lifelong enjoyment of nutritious foods which include veggies. Here's stuff we've overheard in our classrooms.

"This tabbouleh tastes like Sour Patch Kids, only healthier," from a SNAP-Ed student at Awbury.

From Roxborough High School's Vetri Cooking Lab: "I never thought I’d like broccoli in a grilled cheese!"

And from a Vetri Cooking Lab session at First Philadelphia Prep: "I usually don’t like Brussels sprouts, but I’m eating my whole salad!"
