Cooking for Heart Health

Cooking for Heart Health  is a Culinary Medicine initiative focused on cardiovascular disease prevention and intervention.

With hypertension, a major risk factor for heart disease, affecting 33% of Philadelphians, this four-part cooking series empowers participants with the knowledge and skills to cook more often while utilizing ingredients to support a healthier heart.

Studies show that when individuals feel knowledgeable, empowered, and confident in their efforts to make nutritious choices, they are more likely to engage in sustainable long-term change in dietary behaviors.

What to Expect

Cooking for Heart Health teaches the preparation of nutritious and delicious recipes paired with relevant nutritional teachings.

In the four-class series, participants make affordable, approachable recipes, enjoy a family-style meal, and learn skills and tips to empower lasting lifestyle changes including:

• Eat a Rainbow
• Fiber and Plant-Based Protein
• D.A.S.H Basics
• Heritage Diets

Our goal is for participants to complete the series feeling empowered to include more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains in their meals and more confident in their ability to cook for heart health!

"These classes are changing my palate. I want to eat more like this, I feel so much better."
