At Chester A. Arthur, an elementary school in South Philadelphia, they host a celebration every month to recognize a student in each grade level that goes above and beyond at school every day. Students are nominated by teachers and administration and often are even nominated by other students.
On February 5th, Vetri Community Partnership’s EAT360 Educator, Tamyah, was able to join in on the “Student of the Month” celebration by leading a virtual Just Say Yes session for the school. Students, parents, and faculty were in attendance as Tamyah got everyone excited and encouraged to eat more fruits and veggies.
Here is what Tamyah had to say about the fun:
“I think it’s the sweetest thing. Typically, if we were in-person, they would host a breakfast for these students and their parents. However, with things being virtual at the moment, they give out these neat certificates and they recently had me join to lead Just Say Yes session. For this specific celebration, I taught the MyPlate lesson and demonstrated how to make a pepper frittata. It was super yummy!”
“The biggest highlight for me was being able to sit and eat breakfast with all the students after the lesson was over. They were so eager to share what they were eating for breakfast and it put a huge smile on my face. I can’t wait for next month’s celebration!”
