In Vetri Cooking Lab, students across the city are continually trying things for the first time. Even in the summer months, kids of all ages are exposed to nutritious, delicious recipes that inspire them to lead healthier lives.

Take Taylor, an about-to-be ninth grader who is taking Vetri Cooking Lab this summer with Inspiring Minds, a longtime VCP community partner and youth services organization. On a Wednesday afternoon, Taylor helped prepare a Greek Salad, Grilled Pineapple, and Hummus with cut veggies. But when it came time to try everything she’d made, she skipped right over the hummus.

“I’ve never tried it, but it’s just not something I think I’d like,” she said as she snacked on salad and grilled pineapple. Meanwhile, Taylor’s classmates were dipping carrots, cucumbers, bell peppers, and radishes into the hummus and giving it high praise.

After a few moments of hesitation, Taylor got up, scooped some hummus onto her plate with veggies, and tasted it (and liked it!).

Vetri Cooking Lab’s hypothesis—that hands-on cooking classes using nutritious ingredients and delicious recipes helps kids try and like more fruits, veggies, and whole grains—is proven correct (again). Your support of Vetri Community Partnership helps give Taylor and thousands of other students like her the chance to try nutritious foods and build healthy habits for life. Thank you for all you have done!
